Dr. Dana W. Mayo
 
Dana W. Mayo holds the Charles Weston Pickard Research Professor of Chemistry Chair at Bowdoin College. During the summers of 1960-1971 he co-directed with Professor R.C. Lord one-week Summer Courses on the Technique and Applications of Infrared Spectroscopy at MIT. From 1972-81 he continued to co-direct these programs at Bowdoin College and became Director in 1982. The summer of 2007 will mark his 49th year of association with these courses which were founded by Professor Lord at MIT in 1950. Dr. Mayo has over fifty publications and 2 patents in areas of his research interests which include the application of vibrational spectroscopy to molecular structure determination, natural products chemistry, environmental studies of oil pollution and microscale organic laboratory techniques. He is a co-author of "Microscale Organic Laboratory (with Multistep and Multiscale Syntheses)" and "Microscale Techniques For The Organic Laboratory". Among his awards are the Catalyst National Award of the Chemical Manufacturers Association for excellence in chemistry teaching, the Charles A. Dana Foundation Award for pioneering Achievement in Health and Higher Education, and the American Chemical Society Division of Chemical Health and Safety Award.
